Gold Whey Protein

Why gold whey protein? Essential amino acids are required daily for almost every part of the human body and whey protein is an excellent and nutritious way to add it to your diet, naturally. It all started in about 1992 when a process was developed that extracted pure amino acids from milk proteins, leaving behind the cholesterol, fat and sugar (lactose). What scientist came up with is the purest and most bio-available (digestible) source of protein available today.

Whey protein isolate, the purest and healthiest form of protein whey, should be the primary ingredient in any whey protein purchase. Unfortunately, many whey protein products have fillers and other non-essential artificial ingredients which your body may not want or need so, looking at the nutrition label is very, very important when considering your whey purchase. However, the purer the product, the more expensive it becomes. You have to weigh the pros and cons and the purpose for using the protein. Sometimes the reverse is true – the more expensive the product does not necessarily mean the best either.

Also, here is another tip that you might not think of if you have decided to make whey or any other supplement a part of a balanced nutrition plan. If you are purchasing supplemental products from a local health food store, check the expiration date. More often then not, stores rotate their stock and often times place older product at the front of the shelf. It is the same concept as milk. The fresher the product, the more nutrients are maintained which equals better value for your money.

If you are ordering online, compare prices! More often then not, Amazon.com has free shipping on many of it’s items and therefore is a trusted better value overall.

There are many reasons to add whey protein to a diet but my favorite is weight management. Whey protein naturally contains bioavailable chemicals which catalyze the release of two appetite-suppressing hormones: glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and cholecystokinin (CKK). In a study, researchers found that whey protein had a bigger impact on satiety than the other protein in milk, casein. By just adding a small amount of protein whey to your mid-morning snack may help you control hunger throughout the day.

Whey Recipes

Here are two great recipes for smoothies I tried out last week. They are delicious and the calorie count is kept low! Give them a try!

Key Lime Pie Smoothie with Whey:

2 scoops vanilla whey protein powder
1/2 of a fresh graham cracker
2 tsp fresh lime juice.
10 to 12 oz of water. Use skim milk if you prefer
2 to 4 ice cubes (personal preference)
Put all the ingredients into the blender. You may want to crush the graham cracker before you place in blender.

Blend for 45 seconds or so and you’re set. If you are using a shaker bottle, place the graham cracker in a plastic baggie and crush by rolling something on top of it.

Chocolate banana Smoothie:

Use either white chocolate or regular chocolate just by switching the pudding mix and protein powder flavor!

2 scoops protein powder
1/2 banana
3T sugar free jello pudding mix (white chocolate or chocolate fudge)
10-12 oz water (or skim milk)
2-4 ice cubes
1 tsp of vanilla extract
